Sara Thornton, MPA
AMUS / Urban Safety
In 2013, Sara Thornton began working with the Center as an Americorps Urban Safety member while completing her Master's Degree in Public Administration at Wayne State University. Since completing her graduate program, she has continued to work with the Center to research the presence of domestic violence in Detroit.
Sara began her work with individuals affected by domestic violence in 2006 at HAVEN, Inc., a domestic violence advocacy organization in Oakland County, MI, as a Crisis Line Counselor.
After graduating with her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, she continued to work with survivors of domestic violence as a Families First Counselor until she went abroad to work for a social services organization in Ukraine as a Peace Corps Volunteer.
