AMUS / Urban Safety
Born and raised in Detroit, Cass Tech graduate DeShawn has a passion for restoring Detroit to greatness. He is finishing up his undergrad as a Sociology major. He started his work at the Center for Urban Studies (CUS) as a work study student in 2012. After 7 months of surveying and leafletting he joined the AmeriCorps Urban Safety (AMUS) team in 2013 where he served two years in the Jefferson East and Cody sectors. After his service as an AMUS member he assisted CUS’s Part B program briefly. Next he coordinated a 10 week summer youth program (2015). The program employed local youth and prepared them for higher education and the workforce.
Now DeShawn has joined the CUS research team where he will be conducting quantitative research and AMUS member coordination in target areas.
